Back in Black! - The classic
Back to the roots: the AK Black is the focus of this test report. As an icon and cornerstone in the AK ski series, the Black has inspired numerous models based on its geometry and unique character.
Brief profile of the Black: The AK Black, a top seller, combines tradition with modern performance. It is known for its maneuverability, which reflects its origins in slalom. Its outstanding features are easy turn initiation and excellent directional stability.
Technical data:

Tailing: 124.5mm  -  69mm  - 108.5mm
Radius: 9.9m (152), 10.8m (159), 11.6m (165), 12.3m (170) & 13.2m (176)
Ride report
Similar to the AK Yellow, the geometry of the Black impresses me. The difference to the Yellow lies in the construction: The Black, equipped with a slightly finer Titanal plate over the wood core, is less aggressive and easier to ride. Its character is easy to turn and pleasant.
The Black develops its full potential in confined spaces. The flex requires less power than its big brother (Yellow) and enables responsive turn initiation. This is particularly evident on groomed slopes or moguls, where the Black can be skied easily and without much effort.
As the "little brother" of the Yellow, the Black also shines in more demanding conditions. It is easier to ski, but shows its strengths on hard slopes, artificial snow or ice. The ski offers flexibility: it can be used when necessary, but can also be enjoyed with a more relaxed skiing style.
My personal recommendation:
The Black is ideal for skiers who are looking for a stable slalom ski but don't want to constantly push themselves to the limit. The ski is versatile: it can, but doesn't have to.
The Black, available in lengths between 152 and 176 cm, is a classic. It is particularly suitable for lighter skiers or those who don't want to ski at full power all day long. In demanding conditions, the AK Black is an excellent companion as it does not react to every bump and provides a smooth ride. This is enhanced by the elastAK surface, which eliminates subtle vibrations, ensures a smooth ride and is easy on the joints. The Black is the perfect ski for anyone who wants to pick up speed in the morning and take it easy from time to time.
AK Black - The classic!
Lovely to see this new equipment, back in the 80s skis were much longer and harder to turn :))
